The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) had the honour of receiving a high-level diplomatic delegation from the Embassy of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on Wednesday, 10th April 2025. The visit, led by the Algerian Ambassador and his Deputy, H.E. Atmane Boudjemia, was a courtesy call on the Chamber to strengthen bilateral relations and explore potential areas of economic and commercial cooperation between Ghana and Algeria.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the President of the GNCCI, Mr. Stephane Miezan who acknowledged the longstanding and cordial relations that exist between the two nations. In his brief remarks, Mr. Miezan reiterated the Chamber’s commitment to advancing regional cooperation and building strategic partnerships that serve the interests of both countries. He further underscored the key role of the private sector in promoting intra-African trade, especially under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

During the interaction, the Algerian Ambassador spoke passionately about the strong relationship between Ghana and Algeria and the importance of enhancing this partnership through trade, investment, and joint ventures. He referenced Algeria’s strengths in the mining and petroleum industries, noting the potential for Ghana to explore refined petroleum imports from Algeria. The Ambassador also highlighted Algeria’s large market of over 40 million people, which presents viable opportunities for Ghanaian exporters and entrepreneurs.

The discussion also touched on the broader vision of establishing a unified African market. Both parties agreed on the urgency of working together to unlock the continent’s economic potential by removing trade barriers, improving transport and logistics infrastructure, and harmonizing regulatory frameworks. The Algerian side expressed particular interest in facilitating business-to-business linkages, especially in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, agribusiness, and education.

The GNCCI President expressed optimism about the future of Ghana-Algeria trade relations and noted the Chamber’s readiness to work with the Algerian Embassy to foster collaboration among business communities in both countries. He emphasized the importance of creating platforms for regular dialogue, knowledge exchange, and joint ventures that can deliver mutual economic gains.

In his concluding remarks, the Ambassador commended the GNCCI for its leadership and proactive engagement in regional trade development. He expressed his satisfaction with the discussions and conveyed Algeria’s willingness to pursue meaningful cooperation with Ghana’s private sector, facilitated through the Chamber.

The meeting marks an important step toward deeper economic ties between Ghana and Algeria, reinforcing the spirit of Pan-Africanism and the shared vision of economic transformation across the continent.
