GNCCI Cape Coast Branch Hosts Capacity-Building Event on Climate Innovation and Sustainable Business Practices

On January 15, 2024, the Cape Coast Branch of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) organized a capacity-building event at the Pempamsie Hotel in Cape Coast, Ghana. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC), Global Affairs Canada, and Ashesi University.

The primary objective of the event was to equip GNCCI members with the necessary knowledge and tools to develop and nurture sustainable initiatives in response to climate challenges. Participants were introduced to effective strategies for establishing and managing business incubators, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable practices within their enterprises.

A significant portion of the training focused on accessing Canadian grants specifically tailored for homegrown businesses. Guidance was provided on securing grants from Global Affairs Canada, emphasizing opportunities for businesses committed to sustainability and climate resilience.

This event underscored the importance of collaboration between local businesses, international partners, and educational institutions in addressing climate change. The partnership with GCIC, an institute of Ashesi University, and support from Global Affairs Canada, highlighted a commitment to strengthening Ghana's ability to respond to the economic and social impacts of climate change by supporting small and medium-scale entrepreneurs to develop profitable and locally-appropriate solutions to mitigate or adapt to climate change.

The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry is dedicated to promoting and protecting commercial and industrial interests in Ghana. Through events like this, GNCCI continues to support its members in adopting sustainable practices that contribute to the development of a green economy.

The Ghana Climate Innovation Centre is a pioneering national business incubator with a unique focus on developing SME ventures and entrepreneurs in Ghana’s Green Economy. Established in 2016 and managed by a consortium led by Ashesi University, GCIC provides business incubation, acceleration programmes, and grant financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana to bolster their operations and improve their climate adaptation practices.
