GNCCI Engages Government to Accelerate Economic Transformation

Accra, April 24, 2025 – The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), led by President Mr. Stephan Miezan, engaged the government in a high-level meeting at Flagstaff House with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to advance strategic economic priorities emerging from the recent Kwahu Business Forum.

At the heart of the discussion was infrastructure—roads, ports, and power—as the backbone of national development. “We’re ready to pool our expertise and capital so that every mile of road and every megawatt of power translates into shared prosperity,” said Mr. Miezan, emphasizing the private sector’s critical role in delivering the government’s infrastructure vision.

The government’s 24-hour economy policy was spotlighted as a bold step toward productivity, job creation, and regional economic balance. GNCCI pledged to mobilize its members to pilot round-the-clock operations across key industries. “This policy can reset our economic clock,” Mr. Miezan noted, “but only if businesses and government move in lockstep.”

Youth entrepreneurship also featured prominently. Building on the successful launch of the Junior Chamber in Takoradi, GNCCI announced a national rollout across tertiary institutions. The initiative is cultivating a new generation of entrepreneurs by nurturing innovation and business skills among students. “Our goal is to build a pipeline of job creators, not job seekers,” said Mr. Miezan. “We’re planting seeds for long-term economic resilience.”

On access to capital, GNCCI called for streamlined financing mechanisms—particularly through Exim Bank—to unlock private-sector potential. “Opening credit to viable enterprises is like turning on a tap of opportunity,” Mr. Miezan remarked. “Once it flows, growth follows.”

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah praised GNCCI’s strategic engagement and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to an enabling business environment. “Together, we will reset Ghana’s economy for accelerated growth and shared prosperity,” he stated, urging businesses to collaborate more directly with government.

The meeting follows the second Kwahu Business Forum held at the Myraeso Social Centre, which galvanized a wide range of stakeholders—including industry leaders, financial institutions, and traditional authorities—around actionable economic strategies. GNCCI and government are now poised to translate these discussions into implementation.
