GNCCI Engages University of Ghana on Junior Chamber Project to Empower Young Entrepreneurs

Accra, April 25, 2025 - As part of its commitment to youth empowerment and enterprise development, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has held a strategic stakeholder engagement meeting with the University of Ghana to discuss the implementation of the Junior Chamber initiative on campus.

The meeting brought together representatives from both institutions to explore how the project can be structured to bridge the gap between academia and industry, and to empower students through entrepreneurial thinking, mentorship, and practical exposure. Discussions centered on aligning the Junior Chamber model with the specific needs of the University of Ghana student body, as well as leveraging existing resources and partnerships to support young innovators.

A recurring theme was the importance of creating an enabling environment for students to transition from academic learning to real-world application. The Chamber emphasized the value of fostering entrepreneurship early, and equipping students with the soft and hard skills necessary to thrive in competitive markets. “It’s about helping students turn ideas into action and passion into sustainable ventures,” Mr. Stephan Miezan, president of the Chamber noted.

The need for psychological safety and ethical workplace experiences was also addressed. Stakeholders stressed the importance of building systems that protect students from any form of harassment or exploitation during internships and engagements facilitated through the Junior Chamber. It was agreed that structures such as proper onboarding, clear reporting mechanisms, and professional mentorship will be key to maintaining safe and productive learning spaces.

The Junior Chamber project—already piloted successfully at the Takoradi Technical University—is designed to serve as a platform for entrepreneurship incubation, student-led innovation, and professional development. Through this engagement, both the GNCCI and University of Ghana are confident in laying the groundwork for a collaborative model that equips students with tools to either build their own businesses or excel in employment.
