The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has reinforced its commitment to fostering private sector growth by deepening collaboration with the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM). A delegation from the Chamber, led by its First Vice President, Dr. Mrs. Emelia Assiakwa, paid a courtesy call on the Chief Executive Officer of GEXIM, Hon. Sylvester Adinam Mensah, and the Deputy CEO, Mr. Klu Mensah. The engagement focused on strengthening support for businesses, improving access to international markets, and promoting Ghana’s export sector.
During the discussions, GNCCI provided an overview of its role as the leading voice of the private sector, highlighting the key services it offers to businesses across various industries. The Chamber emphasized that its mission aligns with the government's broader agenda of enhancing private sector-led economic growth.
The discussions underscored the critical role of GEXIM in Ghana’s economic development, with a particular focus on boosting export capacity. The bank’s strategic initiatives aim to encourage the manufacturing sector, promote the development of the agric sector, and support research and development (R&D) across key areas of the value chain.
Hon. Sylvester Mensah outlined GEXIM’s core mandate of handling both export and import financing, stressing the importance of a well-defined strategy in driving economic transformation. He noted that the bank continues to invest in pharmaceutical development, enhance food production, and add value to locally manufactured goods to make them more competitive in international markets. Additionally, GEXIM remains committed to import substitution, ensuring that Ghanaian businesses have the necessary resources to reduce reliance on imports while strengthening local industries.
The engagement also touched on the need to change the existing narrative around Ghana’s economy, shifting from an over-reliance on imported goods to a balanced focus on both local and international trade. The Chamber emphasized the importance of policies that encourage business sustainability, innovation, and international competitiveness.
