Accra, Ghana – July 16, 2024: The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), with support from GIZ, has launched the third phase of the “Empowering SMEs: Unlocking AfCFTA Opportunities” programme. This training is designed to prepare 50 selected SMEs to begin exporting under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The event took place in the GNCCI Conference Room in Dzorwulu, Accra.
These fifty (50) SMEs were selected from a pool of 1,500 businesses that received sensitization training on the AfCFTA in 2023. Earlier this year, these businesses were further empowered with advanced machinery and manufacturing tools to enhance their productivity. The programme’s third phase has been met with enthusiasm and positive feedback from participants. During the sessions, experts provided in-depth knowledge and practical examples to ensure the SMEs are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of exporting under AfCFTA.
A notable focus of the programme was the emphasis on market entry strategy. The SMEs were trained to perform market research, identify suitable markets, and design effective entry plans. This was complemented with sessions on export regulation and compliance, providing participants with an understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements for exporting under AfCFTA. Trade financing options were also a major focus, with participants learning about different financial instruments and how to access them. This included information on trade credit, export insurance, and other financial support mechanisms available to SMEs.
Finally, the marketing and promotion sessions provided valuable insights into how SMEs can effectively market their products in international markets. This included strategies for branding, digital marketing, and leveraging social media to reach a wider audience.
