The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) collaborated with the GIZ Ghana to host an “Export Readiness Training” program, aimed at empowering women-led businesses in the country.

The primary objective of this training was to equip these businesses with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The training was held in Accra and was attended by approximately 60 women entrepreneurs from different industries including agribusiness, manufacturing, and services.

The AfCFTA is a major milestone for African nations as it aims to create a single market for goods, services, and people across the African continent. However, for businesses to reap the benefits of this agreement, they must be prepared and equipped to take advantage of the opportunities it presents.

During the two-day training session, participants received training on various topics such as Trade Policy, Trade Financing, AfCFTA Rules of Origin, Export Documentation, Trade Negotiations, and Women’s challenges in relation to the AfCFTA. This training was crucial as the AfCFTA provides a unique opportunity for businesses to expand their customer base and reach new markets across the continent.

The training was a massive success with participants praising the program for its practical and relevant content and opportunities. This program serves as a model for women to come together to support the growth of women-led businesses and contribute to the economic development of the country.

The GNCCI is dedicated to providing business support services to Ghanaian businesses, especially women entrepreneurs, to better equip them to take advantage of the opportunities created by the AfCFTA. This will help create a more inclusive and sustainable economy, with women playing a leading role in driving growth and innovation in the country. A second training session is planned for Tema on 2nd and 3rd February 2023, which will provide further opportunities for women entrepreneurs to hone their skills and succeed under the AfCFTA.
