On Tuesday, March 18th, 2023, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) had the pleasure of welcoming the Board Chairman and Directors of Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL) to its headquarters. The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the Chamber’s priorities and explore potential opportunities for Republic Bank (Ghana) to assist in the midst of Ghana’s current economic crisis.

The visit served as evidence of the strong partnership between the GNCCI and the financial sector in the country, as these organizations share a commitment to promoting economic growth and development in Ghana. During the meeting, the GNCCI provided an overview of its current priorities, which include advocating for pro-business policies, supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, and promoting Ghana’s exports to the global market.

The CEO of the GNCCI, Mr. Mark Badu-Aboagye, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the Chamber’s role as the engine of growth for the Ghanaian private sector. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the GNCCI and the Republic Bank (Ghana) in addressing the challenges facing the Ghanaian private sector.

The Board Chairman of the RFHL, Mr. Vincent Pereira, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated RFHL’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of the Ghanaian economy. He added that the bank is always looking for opportunities to contribute to the progress of the Ghanaian private sector.

The President of the Chamber, Mr. Clement Osei-Amoako, in his remarks expressed concerns about the impact of the current economic crisis in the country, including the tax burden on businesses, debt restructuring, and other micro-economic instabilities. However, he expressed optimism that the situation would improve soon and encouraged Republic Bank Ghana to invest in the private sector, particularly financial facilities to promote the growth of SMEs and agriculture.

Mr. Nigel Baptiste, the President & Managing Director of Republic Bank Limited Trinidad & Tobago, spoke highly of the GNCCI, commending the Chamber for its strategic role in promoting the growth of the Ghanaian economy. Furthermore, he affirmed that Republic Bank Limited is committed to supporting the growth of the Ghanaian economy, and will continue to follow the footsteps of GNCCI by fostering partnerships and providing relevant resources and expertise to enable businesses in Ghana to thrive. This partnership is essential to drive economic growth and promote sustainable development in Ghana.

Other attendees at the meeting included Dr. Mrs. Emelia Assiakwa, the National Treasurer of the GNCCI, Mr. Michael Bozumbil, Chief Executive of Petrolsol Ghana Limited, Mr. Moses Atobrah, MD of DEBBIES, DEBBITONE, and AFRICAN HERBAL, and Mr. Michael Caesar, Co-founder, and CEO of Kabkork Publication Limited.
